Sometimes you see things and you know instantly that you have to have it. I was visiting Germany and there was WMF's Function 4 on display. I do have a thing for design, function and quality and this one is a design that should get a few awards. I could see already that it was heavier than some of WMF's other pots. And the red silicone at the handles and the lid are just something really new, different and functional. If you have worked with silicone than you will know that it is practical - through and through. And silicone is something else: quiet! What a difference.I do have more than enough pots and pans, and those are super, there is just no need for a new pot set. But therefore that we are not able to take a pot home for a trial, just to find out how it will work, I had buy it.The Trans Therm universal base makes it possible to use Function 4 on all stovetops, including induction. As a little tip: always put a pot on the right sized burner, the pot should cover the burner, otherwise the pot is getting to hot on the outside and energy is being wasted. The pot heats up fast and very evenly due to its heavy base.I can move the hot pot around without pot holders, but for straining I do use mostly potholders, just to be on the safe side. Straining out the liquid has been made super easy due to the lids pouring holes. And with another little turn of the lid no steam will escape. The glass lid allows me to check on my food without having to lift the lid and therefore all the steam stays in the pot, what is important if I cook with only a little bit of water. I know that this pot will work forever. I use it now mostly for stews, there is no burning of the meat, I do not need to add much liquids, just put it on low heat or into the oven - also on low heat and the food will come out great. I just made my favorite Goulash with tomatoes, yummy!I want to move away from the nonstick frying pans, they are very practical and I do buy always good quality, but there is something missing. Somebody wrote in one of his reviews that fried eggs just taste better if made in a stainless steel pan. So, I pulled out the stainless steel pot and fried an egg in it. The gentleman was right, it taste better, like in the good old days! Over the years I got rid of the bad habit of pouring the oil into the pan before the pan is hot. I think that I am therefore ready to buy a stainless steel pan, the cleaning up will be no longer an issue.I will have to get the Function 4 frying and serving ( oven ) pan too, it is already on my list. I do like pans with two handles; I find it more secure and easier if I put the pan into the oven. WMF Function 4 Oven Pan, 11-Inch
